About Julia Marie . . .
Raised in a central California town, surrounded by waving fields of alfalfa and fragrant orange groves, my early years were influenced by the opulence of the post WWII era. I was educated in small private schools and my primary expectation was to marry and have children. That expectation was fulfilled. However, three years later, newly divorced with two toddlers in tow, I enrolled in the local community college hoping to discover a satisfying career that would quickly provide financial stability. I studied everything from astronomy to X-ray technology but did not find what I was seeking.
At the tender age of twenty-one I had owned and managed a thriving billiard hall with my husband. My entrepreneurial spirit was ignited in that endeavor and the experience I gained served me well after becoming a single parent. Over the next two decades I created a futon manufacturing business, catered gourmet parties, managed a retail flower shop, became a real estate agent and trained volunteers for a non-profit agency that feeds the hungry. Diverse as this tapestry of experience may appear, it is all woven of similar material – threads of ingenuity, creativity, resourcefulness, integrity and a growing trust in myself. Being a single mother presented challenges and opportunities that college could not begin to rival and it prepared me for my present occupation in ways I have only recently understood. In bringing up two daughters, I discovered a wealth of resources I never knew I possessed, along with some daunting limitations.
When my youngest daughter went off to college I left the business world behind, attended a healing arts school, and discovered the healer that had been patiently waiting within. As it turns out, I had been on that path from the beginning but only realized this fact when I received Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy for the first time.
I was first introduced to Craniosacral Therapy as a massage student at the Institute of Psycho-Structural Balancing in Santa Monica, CA. My first experience as a Craniosacral Therapy client had a very positive impact and sparked the recognition that this form of healing would become my life’s work. I began my education in Craniosacral Therapy with Michael Shea, BA, MA, PhD in 1996. My training in Craniosacral Biodynamics began with Mary Louise Muller, M.Ed, RCST®, RPP in 1997 and continues with my current mentor, Mike Boxhall, RCST-FCSTA. I also trained in Somatic Trauma Resolution in 2004 with Sharon Porter, SEP, RCST, RPP. All of my teachers have been greatly influenced by Franklyn Sills, MA, RPT, RCST, who is recognized as a guiding force in the ongoing development of the ever expanding field of Biodynamic Craniosacral therapy. At the invitation of my mentor, Mike Boxhall, I am now offering courses in Advanced Practitioner Skills, based on the principles of Craniosacral Biodynamics. I currently maintain a private practice in Ridgway, Colorado, the small rural Rocky Mountain community that I call home.
I am certified by the Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy Association of North America . BCTA/NA offers 700 hour certification with adherence to professional standards that grant graduates the designation of Registered Craniosacral Therapist (RCST®).
